Masel – “The Italian Style Crafted in Italy with You”

So theres no doubt you have all heard of a 'made to order' suit, and perhaps seen some 'made to order' shirts but in this vast sartorial world have you ever heard of a 'made to order' tie? well let me introduce you to Masel; an Italian brand who do just that.

Masel's founder Luca was in Hong Kong recently and I took the opportunity to book myself in for an appointment with the man himself to update my tie drawer with my first few bespoke ties.

Meeting a local tailor run by friends in town, I began the process of picking out the patterns I liked, there was a great assortment of silk patterns from traditional, to geometric, to the more daring sartorial options like paisleys.

The nature of bespoke means the length and width of the tie can be customised to suit your body style or personal preference, I like a wider tie and requested a 7 fold as that is what I prefer. The tie itself and the inner lining can be chosen from a range of silks from Lake Como in Italy (a region I dream of retiring in one day).

I picked out a more classic Hermes inspired pattern and a renaissance one (after all the tie is all about individuality and personalisation and these two designs resonated with me).

Once the pattern of the tie has been decided on, you have the option to have your initials stitched into the lining of the tie, the linings are a wool/linen mix from a factory close to Bologna, only a couple of hours drive from Lake Como. For those who want that extra bit of personal flair, you can have your favourite quote stitched onto the inside lining of the tie, make it witty, meaningful or perhaps offensive, the choice is yours. One of mine reads "I am Mr. Gumbatron".

Going for the overkill, I politely requested for a hand stitched coffee cup embroidery on the inside of the tie, to my surprise Luca assertively responded not a problem. All ties are finished with an Italian flag bar tack.

Four weeks later and the ties arrived to me in a beautiful display box, complete with a hand tied ribbon, it resembled the kind of gift one might expect to receive on a special occasion.

Masel also has a 'ready to wear' collection , these include traditional patterns on fine Italian silk as well as a woven Grenadine Silk ties with hand rolled hedges. All the ties including this line are  100% handcrafted in Italy.

The bespoke line of ties from Masel are relatively affordable given the quality exotic fabrics used to construct them and the attention to detail is highly commendable. Bespoke tailoring, Italian craftsmanship and top-end fabrics are in the DNA of each unique tie made by Masel.

This would make the perfect gift for the modern gentleman who has everything! take note ladies.

Bespoke Ties start from €108,00 / $150 AUD / $900HKD
