Macallan releases an innovative new series centered around sustainable packaging; The Macallan Harmony Collection. Its first edition and inaugural release is titled Rich Cacao.
This collection captures the brands un-compromised excellence that it has been renowned for since 1824, crafted from a harmonious combination of European and American oak casks, this rich single malt whisky pairs in perfect harmony with fine chocolates for an elevated tasting experience.
AN EXPLORATION OF CHOCOLATE
To create the first edition in this new limited annual release series, The Macallan Whisky Maker Polly Logan embarked on a unique journey to Girona, Spain, where she immersed herself in the world of chocolate, exploring the chocolate- making process and uncovering its distinctive flavour profiles. A collaboration with renowned pastry chef Jordi Roca of three Michelin star restaurant El Celler de Can Roca, this release brings the worlds of chocolate and whisky to life.
SUSTAINABLE INNOVATION
Packaging for spirits is frequently an afterthought, most of the design and consideration goes into the bottle and the label itself, but this particular bottle is different. Macallan Harmony Rich Cacao is presented in a fully recyclable and biodegradable box made from “cacao pod remnants,” which are leftovers normally discarded as a byproduct from the chocolate-making process.
In homage to its chocolate influence, The Macallan Harmony Collection Rich Cacao is presented in a 100% recyclable gift box, made using discarded husks from cacao pods.
A by-product in the chocolate-making process, these husks would have been sent to landfill or destroyed but have now been reborn with a renewed purpose.

TASTING NOTES
An exceptionally rich single malt whisky characterised by its deep, dark chocolate profile, a perfect harmony of European and American casks.
Colour:Toasted cacao beans.
Aroma: Chocolate fondant, honey, oak, zesty lime and ginger.
Palate: Dark chocolate, honey, dates, vanilla and cinnamon.
Finish: Long with rich chocolate.
ABV: 44%.
The Macallan Harmony Cacao priced at US$160 / AUD $230 / HK$1,300 per bottle.
Hong Kong Launch Event - October 2021
Mr Gumbatron was invited to The Macallan Harmony Collection - Cacao launch at The Macallan Room at K11 Musea, Hong Kong in October 2021.
An intimate chocolate and whisky tasting guided by friend of Mr Gumbatron Patricia Byott - Private Client Relationship Manager at Edrington & Hong Kong Brand Ambassador of The Macallan. The event coincided with the Chinese Mid Autumn Festival, so we were treated to a luxurious Chocolate Mooncake (by The Peninsula Hong Kong) and whiskey pairing at The Macallan Room at K11 Musea.
For those not familiar with Macallan Room, it is an is an exclusive retail concept to the brand, think of it as a private lounge to discover the world of Macallan Whisky, although the space feels much like a VIP experience, the hosts and team are very welcoming to anyone who shares a love or curiosity into the world of The Macallan, whether seasoned connoisseurs or first timers. Guest can make an appointment to taste The Macallan range, drop in for a single dram or even to make a purchase; bottle customisation is also available upon request.
